Hi Terry,

Thanks very much for visiting Every Dot Connects; I don't have expertise in writing about health-related issues but I know some folks who do and will contact you offline. If military medicine is using Web 2.0 apps/tools to conduct business, that would certainly be of interest here on Every Dot.

I'll be in touch....

Sheila,

With your Navy background and outstanding credentials as an author, blogger and freelance writer, we would welcome the opportunity to open the world of military medicine to you. There are many wonderful stories to tell about the dedicated health providers who care for all of the wounded warriors and the nearly 9.1 million beneficiaries of the Military Health System (MHS).

Our 140,000 doctors, nurses, counselors and other health staff serve our men and women in uniform, their families, and our retirees and their families. More than 95,000 of our medical professionals have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. They serve in 65 hospitals, 412 clinics and 414 dental clinics. Testiment to their efforts is the fact that the wounded-in-theater survival rate during this conflict has been 97 percent, compared with 75 percent in World War II and 81 percent in Vietnam.

The MHS is performing ground breaking research in such areas as regenerative medicine with stem cells, cancer research, rehabilitative medicine, nanomedicine, biomaterials, medical modeling and simulation, medical robotics, biomonitoring technologies, nontraditional medicine/complementary and alternative medicine, and systems biology models. More than 2,000 research publications are generated each year from these efforts. Our Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences graduates more than 120 doctors a year. We offer some of the finest medical education opportunities and technical training in the world. Through humanitarian missions such as those carried out by our hospital ships, the USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort, our medical teams are building a bridge to peace with underdeveloped nations around the world.

The outstanding work of military medical professionals is truly the untold story of this war, and we would welcome the opportunity to work with you to tell it. I would love the opportunity to discuss this with you more. My contact information is below.

Thank you for your military service and for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Terry D. Jones, APR
