My first career as a journalist turned out to be the ideal preparation for my second life in the world of public relations. Strong writing, telling the truth, asking good questions and really listening to the answers is the basis of good communications in print or online; in journalism and in PR.

The aspect of social media I find most exciting is the potential for authentic communications between organizations and their audiences. I’m also inspired by the generosity of my colleagues, especially on this site and in Austin’s Social Media Club, for sharing their knowledge, ideas, and new ways of doing business for the benefit of us all as well as our clients.

I’ve been in the public relations business for 17 years, and started Brenda Thompson Communications in 2003 after a stint at one of Austin’s top independent agencies. For more about my credentials and work, please see my website.
